Course Description: 

Chemistry is a complex physical science and forms the basis for other sciences including many physics and biology topics. A understanding of basic chemistry is necessary for anyone from a painter to a doctor and many careers in between. Chemistry also affects our daily lives from the detergents we clean our dishes with to the gasoline we put in our cars. This course will introduce students to the foundations which build the study of chemistry, prepare them to make confident decisions as citizens, and allow them pursue future course work in the sciences.

Grading Policy: 
Following school policy this class will have a midterm and a final exam (or project), each counts as 10% of the final average for the class. 

For each quarter grades will be calculated on a simple weighted basis. 
  • 70% Assessments - Projects, tests, quizzes, reports, other large assignments.
  • 30% Learning Experiences - Homework, in-class assignments, journals, short writing prompts, and many other types small assignments.

Class Announcements and Assignments:

It is strongly encouraged that students use a 3-ring binder to organize class handouts, notes, and assignments. A binder of 1 1/2 inches should be sufficient for this purpose.
