Middle School STEM News

I am very excited to begin the school year with a new math program for middle school. All students in K-8 will be using the Envisions math program. This is well-aligned with our required standards for math and having previewed the program I think will be very engaging for students. The main text for the program is actually also the workbook for students too!

Computer Science Fridays
During the 2018-2019 school year, I began incorporating computer science as the focus of lessons on Friday for the middle school math/science class. This year that will continue in a more structured manner. We will be using the Code.org program Computer Science Discoveries. There are numerous applications of CS to both our math and science curriculum which makes this program a great fit for our class. Students will learn how to use HTML code to create web pages, using Java programming to create animations and games, and possibly explore app development. Other possible topics outside of the CS Discoveries program include an introduction to 3D printing and some basic robotics.
