Title I News March 2017

Title I parents received the brochure for the 17th Annual North Country Title I Conference to be held on Thursday, April 6 at WMRHS. Please send back the form to me if you can attend by March 21.

Pittsburg's Title I Staff, Mrs. Kenny and Mrs. Marsh, attended the 2017 National Title I Conference in Long Beach, CA during February vacation.  They listened to keynote speakers each day and attended workshops on reading, math, student engagement, growth mindset, along with many other topics.  We look forward to sharing our experiences with the students and staff.

I hope that you are enjoying the monthly Title I newsletter that was sent home.  There are many great language and math tips and suggestions on helping your child at home.

We hope that your children are talking to you about the exciting things we are doing in Title I as we provide supplemental services to the students.  We enjoy working with your children and we hope that they enjoy their time with us, too.

         Title I News October 2016

I would like to introduce myself as the new Title I Project Manager/Teacher at the Pittsburg School.  I have been at the Colebrook Elementary School for 23 years; as a first grade teacher for 19 years and as the Title I Project Manager/Teacher and Reading Specialist for the past 4 years.  This year I am here in Pittsburg one day a week and I am the Reading Specialist 2 times each month.  I am also the Reading Specialist in Stewartstown once a month, and the rest of the time I am at Colebrook Elementary School as the Title I Project Manager/Teacher and Reading Specialist.

The days that I have spent in Pittsburg have been a learning experience for me getting to know the students and staff.  I have assessed the students in grades Kindergarten-three using the phonological awareness assessment.  This is the understanding that our spoken language is made up of words and that our words are made up of individual sounds called phonemes.  Children need to be able to manipulate these sounds in order to become fluent readers.  I have shared the information with the teachers and will use this to provide supplemental instruction to Title I students.

I have also helped the teachers administer the aims web assessments which are a web-based universal screening, progress monitoring, and data management system.  This information will be used to identify the students who need supplemental assistance in the Title I Program.

The students will be taking the NWEA assessment this month and that will be the final component of assessments we use to identify students who need additional supplemental assistance in the Title I Program.

Permission slips for Title I will be sent home as soon as all of our assessments have been completed.  After this I will set up an evening Parent information Meeting.

The Title I monthly newsletter will be sent home as soon as permission slips and parent compacts are signed.  These are full of tips and ideas on ways to help your children succeed in school.  I hope that you enjoy reading them!

I look forward to a fun and rewarding year working with eager students!
